This is a rare JEWETT model 1 typewriter. Its serial number is 1.395. It was manufactured in 1892 by the Duplex typewriter Co in Des Moines, Iowa, USA. The Jewett is the forerunner of the American Standard and the Germania. This early machine was manufactured in the Duplex factory. With base and case.

This beautifull machine is in original condition, and seems well preserved. It has antique wear. One keytop is missing. Both clamps of the unique ribbon reverse mechanism are present. This typewriter is not in working condition and is sold as a collector's item. Only few model 1 Jewetts have survived, so it is very rare today.
